Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day. Rather than braving the beach crowd, we decided to park in Norfolk and take the ferry across the Elizabeth River to Olde Towne Portsmouth. Yeah, I got in deep trouble trying to pronounce these names!
Could it really be "locals" who mispronounce "Norfolk"? Isn't it more likely that some non-locals mispronounced it and then tried to cover their tracks by planting this strange idea in people's heads that "Norfolk" would be pronounced "naww-fuk"?
Well, we are locals now. And I say we flex our muscle: Nore-folk! Nore-folk!!
Pronounce those r's! Nore-folllllk!
Anyway, nice blog.

Thanks Ken. Perhaps my South Carolina blood runs too thick for me to consider myself a local. However, I do feel that we have been called to engage the culture as tools of redemption. What better way could there be than to encourage the Hampton Roads populace to stop discriminating against r's and l's? And this would also be consistent with the "no profanity" signs posted all over the Virginia Beach beachfront.
